How to trade debentures before their maturity?

After receiving of bond certificate, bondholders can trade debentures in secondary markets through securities companies or commercial banks who have debt instrument trading license. Bondholders can see list of financial institutions who can trade with individual investors from www.thaibma.or.th/bondmart/bondinvest_detail.aspx

Ex-coupon debenture is a debenture sold without the right of receipt of the next due coupon payment. Ex-coupon is on the period of registration book closing for the debenture transfer, which is 14 days prior to the coupon payment date of each relevant interest period, the redemption date, as the case maybe. If the first closing date is not a business day, it will be postponed to the next business day.

For example, the debenture with interest payment due on July 1, 2021, has ex-coupon period from June 17, 2021 until the day prior to coupon payment date. As a result, investors who buy debentures during ex-coupon period (June 17 – June 30, 2021) will not receive the coupon payment on July 1, 2021.

Debenture prices have reverse effects on market interest rates. When market interest rates rise, debenture prices will fall, and vice versa.
